| Patriots Owner Flies in Howard Stern Sidekicks for Party
Patriots poohbah Bob Kraft sent his private jet to New Jersey the other night to pick up shock jock Howard Stern's sidekicks Artie Lange and Gary "Baba Booey" Dell'Abate to entertain at a surprise 40th birthday bash for son, Josh. Josh, the executive director of Chelsea's Boys & Girls Club, was rather blown away by the first-class feting and fawning by friends and fam at Bob and Myra's house in Chestnut Hill. "He's a good kid who deserved a good time," said one party-goer.If Josh Kraft is a big fan of Stern's radio show, then it's a nice gesture of his dad to spring for that kind of a party. But am I the only one who thinks it's a little weird that a 40-year-old is having a party thrown by his dad and being described as "a good kid"? .
Turvey Team helps set fundraising record for Super Cities Walk for MS
Lets make this year a year to remember as we strive toward our goal, he said as participants munched on a breakfast provided free by the walks principal sponsor, Zehrs. A major reason for the leap in pledges this year was the participation of the Turvey Team with 67 members who brought in a collective $37,000. The effort was in memory of the late Jim Turvey, who was captain of the Turvey Team in the annual walks until his death in February to MS. A 27-year veteran of Clarica, a longtime member of the former Brantford Public Utilities Commission, the Canadian Hearing Society and the Lions Club, Mr. Turvey was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2000. He had a chronic and progressive form of the disease and his physical health rapidly deteriorated. The team wanted to honour a man who to the end kept a strong spirit and sense of humour while the disease progressed.
Vandy looking to kick the Sunday blues
Vanderbilt, fresh off a three-game sweep of Tennessee, remained No. 1 in the national baseball rankings Monday. To stay there for the long haul, the Commodores must solve some problems, Coach Tim Corbin said. Most notably, Vanderbilt continues to be plagued in Southeastern Conference play by poor starting pitching in Sunday games. Starters have a combined earned-run average of 8.38, leading to four VU losses in six Sunday SEC games. The candidates are many, but the answers have been few. On Sunday against Tennessee, Vanderbilt turned to senior reliever Stephen Shao, who made his first start of the season. He was knocked out of the game in the third inning and surrendered five earned runs. Sophomores Nick Christiani (three starts) and Brett Jacobson (two starts) have also pitched on Sundays, but neither has seized the job.
What Does Mike Francesa Have Against Willie Randolph?
On March 4 on his New York TV sports talk show, Mike'd Up on NBC's New York affiliate, Mike Francesa snubbed New York Mets skipper, Willie Randolph. Francesa was talking about the Mets' prospects this season. He observed that they had gotten by in 2006 with great hitting, and that "the Mets" would paste together a starting rotation, and had a great bullpen. He pointed out that the team had an aging starting rotation for the coming season, with the caveat, that if necessary, "Omar will make a move" for a starting pitcher. It was always "the Mets," whoever they were, as if the managing were done by an anonymous committee, vs. "Omar." Not once did Francesa mention Randolph. Now, I was not a believer in Willie Randolph when he was named Mets manager in 2005. Randolph had never managed; not in the big leagues, and not in the minors.
Half-Life 2: The Orange Box
People complaining about the high cost of video games will shut up and fork over $59.99 for Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, Electronic Arts and Valve's Xbox 360 mega compilation. This five-game set includes the critically acclaimed Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the intriguing puzzle/blasting game Portal and the multiplayer juggernaut Team Fortress 2. With all this shooting and strategizing, gamers may never need to buy another video game, but they'll have to wait until its fall release (unless of course EA leans on Valve and it debuts early). Either way, The Orange Box might make Half-Life 2 a hot contender for game of the year honors once again. .
Game shows provide short-lived glory
Participating in game shows can be messy. Some entail eating bugs, racing through obstacle courses or pulling obscure facts from deep within the brain on a moment's notice. Others simply require contestants to spin a wheel and guess a letter. In some cases, they provide the average person with 15 minutes of fame. Daryl Johnson, a senior in technology education, was eleven years old when he participated on the Nickelodeon game show "Wild and Crazy Kids." Johnson said that they were shooting a remote show near Charlotte, and they picked him out of a huge crowd of kids. Unfazed by the television cameras, Johnson remembered having fun on the show but said his cameo was not a "big deal." A child model, he was used to being on local television commercials and seeing himself on television.
